Which type of housing do you qualify for?
Affordable Housing or Subsidized Housing?
Before you apply, make sure you have the right application for the housing you need.
What is Affordable Housing?
Affordable housing is a term used to describe dwelling units whose rental costs are deemed "affordable" to a group of low to moderate income households within a specific income range for their household size. You must have sufficient income to afford the rent. It is expected that the monthly household income be no less than 30% of the monthly rent for the unit.
For example, if the rent for a 2- bedroom unit is $600, the household income must be at least $2,000. Owners may accept a Section 8 voucher for the unit.
What is Subsidized Housing?
Subsidized housing is a term used to describe dwelling units whose rental costs are deemed "low income" or "subsidized" to a group of very-low or extremely-low income households within a specific income range for their household size. The rent is based on 30% of the adjusted household income for their family size, less a utility allowance. Household gross income must be below 80% of the area median income (AMI) limit to qualify.
